Alcohol Information Scotland - Organisations dealing with Alcohol

SMACAP

The Scottish Ministerial Advisory Committee on Alcohol Problems is a Departmental advisory committee chaired by Tom McCabe, the Deputy Minister for Health and Community Care. The Committee meets 3 or 4 times a year with a formal remit to:


"Advise the Scottish Executive on policy, priorities and strategic planning in relation to tackling alcohol misuse in Scotland."

Under this broad remit the Committee:

  • focuses on specific Scottish themes;
  • undertakes or commissions (via the Secretariat) work on topics of particular concern or specific relevance to Scotland;
  • provides a forum for the dissemination of best practice and the development of new thinking;
  • provides advice on effective use of funds; information and research needs; policy and practice on prevention and promotion activity; and the development of guidance on effective planning and provision of services;
  • provides a lead to Alcohol Action Teams for taking forward local activity to underpin the national Plan.
