The Department's website has information about alcohol misuse and government initiatives. It also has information on how to drink sensibly.

The following publications issued include a consultation on the Department of Health's renewed alcohol strategy for England and follows on from a previous publication (Safe, Sensible, Social (June 2007) which outlined national and local action to achieve long-term reductions in alcohol-related ill health and crime.

In 1995 the Government set up an Inter-Departmental Working Group to review the medical and scientific evidence on the long-term effects of drinking alcohol, and to consider whether the sensible drinking message should be altered in the light of that evidence. A report titled Sensible Drinking was published.
